Editorial Policy & Methodology
How FinancePortal researches, ranks, updates and corrects the information on this website.
Last updated 28 September 2026Where our information comes from
| Topic | Primary sources |
|---|---|
| Interest rates & fees | Official rate cards, schedules of charges and Most Important Terms & Conditions (MITC) published by banks, NBFCs and card issuers (now mostly on .bank.in domains) |
| Regulations | Reserve Bank of India circulars and master directions, Ministry of Finance notifications, NPCI, SEBI, AMFI, IRDAI, EPFO and PFRDA |
| Market data | RBI and industry releases (e.g. card and payment statistics), benchmark gold/silver prices |
| Secondary sources | Reputable business newspapers and comparison sites — used only to cross-check or when an official page is unavailable, and labelled as such |
How we rank and compare
- Deposits are ranked by the highest published rate for deposits below ₹3 crore, with 1/2/3/5-year rates shown separately.
- Loans are ranked by the lowest published starting rate; we also show the maximum rate, fees and tenure because the starting rate is only available to the best profiles.
- Credit cards are compared by base reward value net of annual fee + GST at a stated yearly spend; category bonuses and caps are described on each card page.
- Nobody can pay to change a ranking. Where sources disagree we use the official figure and say so.
How often we update
Rate cards are re-checked regularly and whenever the RBI changes its policy rate. Every lender, card and scheme page shows the date of the underlying rate card and the date we last checked it. Government small-savings rates are updated each quarter when the Ministry of Finance notifies them.
Calculators
Calculators follow standard Indian conventions — reducing-balance EMI, quarterly compounding for bank deposits and RDs, simple interest for deposits under six months, RBI LTV caps for gold loans. Results are estimates; your lender’s figures may differ slightly because of day-count conventions, fees and rounding.
