Start as soon as you have an admission (or a likely admission, for NBFC pre-sanction). Bank processing typically needs a few weeks; secured loans take longer because of valuation and legal checks, so plan around fee deadlines and visa dates.
Steps
- Estimate the costUse the institute’s fee schedule and cost estimate; for abroad add travel, insurance and living costs.
- Check scheme eligibilityIs your institute on a bank’s premier list or a PM-Vidyalaxmi QHEI? Do you qualify for CSIS?
- Shortlist 2–3 lendersCompare rate, collateral-free limit, margin, moratorium and fees.
- ApplyOn the bank’s website or branch, or via pmvidyalaxmi.co.in for participating banks.
- Documents & verificationSubmit student, co-applicant and collateral papers; the bank verifies and may visit or call.
- Sanction & KFSReview the sanction letter and Key Facts Statement (valid at least 3 working days) — APR, moratorium, margin, security.
- Sign & create securityLoan agreement; mortgage/lien for secured loans.
- DisbursalFees paid to the institution per term; living costs in tranches.
