What you need to know

FD rates in India follow the RBI repo rate with a lag. After the RBI cut the repo rate from 6.50% to 5.25% between February and December 2025, most banks trimmed deposit rates through late 2025 and 2026. Today the large public and private banks pay roughly 6.0%–6.6% for 1–5 years to regular depositors, while several mid-sized private banks still pay 7%–7.45%. Senior citizens usually get 0.50% more. The tables below are built from each bank’s latest rate card (effective dates shown) for deposits below ₹3 crore.

Rate that applies to a deposit of exactly that tenure on each bank’s current card. Sorted by 3-year rate. “—” means the bank’s published card has no slab covering that tenure; check with the bank.

Special-tenure FDs (444, 555 days and more)

Many banks put their best rate on an unusual tenure. These special buckets can be withdrawn early like any FD, but check whether they are available only for a limited period.

Why do FD rates differ between banks?

Funding needs

Banks that need deposits to fund loan growth (often mid-sized private banks) pay more to attract money.

Repo rate cycle

When the RBI cuts the repo rate, banks lower deposit rates over the following months; hikes work the other way.

Tenure bucket

Banks price each tenure separately, so the best rate is often in an odd bucket such as 444 days or 18–24 months.

Customer type

Senior citizens (60+) usually get +0.50%; some banks add more for super seniors (80+) or for staff.

Deposit size

Rates on this page are for retail deposits below ₹3 crore; bulk deposits are priced separately.

Callable or not

Non-callable deposits (no premature withdrawal, ₹1 crore+) can earn slightly more.

How to use these rates

  • Match the tenure to your goal first, then look for the best rate in that bucket — do not lock money for longer just to get 0.10% more.
  • Compare the effective yield: quarterly compounding makes 7.00% worth about 7.19% a year on a cumulative FD.
  • Check the effective date — banks change cards frequently, and the rate that applies is the one on the day you book (or renew) the FD.
  • Spread large amounts across banks so each stays within the ₹5 lakh DICGC cover.

Frequently asked questions

Which bank gives the highest FD rate today?

Among the banks we track, Bandhan Bank (7.45% for 2–3 years), IDFC FIRST Bank (7.25% for 500 days–3 years), YES Bank (7.25% for 18–24 months) and RBL Bank (7.20% for 18–36 months) are at the top for regular depositors. Small finance banks can pay more, but carry higher risk than large banks, although they are also covered by DICGC up to ₹5 lakh.

Are FD rates going to fall further?

The RBI held the repo rate at 5.25% in its August 2026 policy with a neutral stance, so large rate cuts are not expected immediately. Deposit rates tend to move a few months after the repo rate.

Is the rate fixed for the full tenure?

Yes. The rate on the day you open the FD applies until maturity, even if the bank later changes its card. On renewal the prevailing rate applies.

Do rates differ for amounts above ₹3 crore?

Yes. Deposits of ₹3 crore and above are bulk deposits with separate rates.
