About this calculator

A balance transfer only pays if the interest saved exceeds the cost of switching — the old lender’s foreclosure charge (often 2% – 5% + GST on fixed-rate loans) plus the new lender’s processing fee. Enter both as the switching cost.

₹5,00,000 outstanding, 48 months left. Switching cost = 4% foreclosure charge at the old bank + 1.5% processing fee at the new one, both with 18% GST. With a zero-foreclosure loan (e.g. IDFC FIRST, or any floating-rate loan) the cost falls to about ₹8,850.

Frequently asked questions

What rate gap makes a transfer worthwhile?

With a 4% foreclosure charge plus a 1.5% new fee, the example above shows a 3-point gap on ₹5 lakh with 4 years left barely breaks even — you need about 4 points or more. With a zero-foreclosure or floating-rate loan, a gap of 1 – 2 points can pay.
