What you need to know

The main difference from a new car loan is the car itself: it must be valued and checked, and the RC must be transferred with your lender’s hypothecation. Plan for a few days to a couple of weeks from choosing the car to getting the new RC.

Steps

  1. Get pre-approvedKnow your eligible amount and rate before you negotiate.
  2. Check the carVahan hypothecation check, e-challan, service and claim history, inspection.
  3. Lender valuationValuer inspects the car; loan = funding % of valuation.
  4. Sanction and KFSCompare APR, fees and foreclosure terms across offers.
  5. Sign and pay marginLoan agreement, Form 34, transfer forms; pay your down payment.
  6. DisbursalLender pays the seller or dealer (and clears the seller’s old loan if any).
  7. RC transferNew RC in your name with the lender’s hypothecation; submit a copy to the lender.
