A used car loan needs three sets of papers: yours (KYC and income), the car’s (RC, insurance, PUC, valuation) and the seller’s (transfer forms and, if the car was financed, the old lender’s NOC).
Your documents
- PAN card
- Aadhaar / passport / voter ID / driving licence for identity and address
- Salaried: last 3 months’ salary slips, Form 16, 6 months’ bank statements
- Self-employed: last 2 years’ ITR with computation, balance sheet and P&L, business proof
- Photographs; co-applicant’s KYC and income proof if any
Car documents
- Registration certificate (RC) — original shown for verification
- Valid insurance policy
- Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
- Lender’s valuation / inspection report
- Sale agreement, or dealer invoice for certified pre-owned cars
Seller & RTO documents
| Form | Purpose | Signed by |
|---|---|---|
| Form 29 | Notice of transfer of ownership | Seller (and buyer); usually 2 copies |
| Form 30 | Application for transfer of ownership | Seller and buyer |
| Form 35 | Notice of termination of hypothecation | Seller and old financier, with the financier’s NOC |
| Form 34 | Application to record a hypothecation agreement | Buyer and new lender |
| Form 28 | NOC from the original RTO | Needed when the car moves to another state |
| Other | Original RC, valid insurance, PUC, address proof, PAN / Form 60 | Buyer |
- Apply online on Parivahan (Vahan “Vehicle related services”), pay the state fee, upload documents and book the RTO visit if verification is needed.
- Report the transfer within 14 days of sale in the same state, or 45 days if the car moves to another state.
- Your lender will insist on Form 34 so the new RC shows “Hypothecated to” your lender.
Frequently asked questions
