From 1 September 2025 BIS introduced HUID-based hallmarking for silver jewellery and artefacts under the revised standard IS 2112:2025, with seven purity grades. It was launched as a voluntary scheme and the Government indicated it could be made mandatory later — check the BIS website for the current status in your district. Every HUID can be verified on the BIS CARE app.
