Since 23 July 2024, long-term capital gains on silver are taxed at 12.5% without indexation. Physical and digital silver become long-term after 24 months; listed silver ETFs after 12 months; silver fund-of-funds after 24 months.

Other rules
- PAN required for purchases of ₹2 lakh or more
- Cash of ₹2 lakh or more in one transaction is prohibited
- Report jewellery/bullion in Schedule AL of ITR if income exceeds ₹50 lakh
- Gifts from relatives are tax-free
