What you need to know

Late or missed RD instalments attract a penalty — for example ₹1–₹2 per ₹100 per month at several public banks and at the Post Office, or a fixed charge per ₹1,000 at some private banks. Repeated defaults can lead the bank to close the RD and pay interest at a lower rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is missing one instalment a big problem?

Usually not — pay it with the small penalty. Several consecutive misses can close the RD.
