Stay safe: only use numbers from the back of your card, your statement or the bank’s own website/app. Fake “customer care” numbers on search results and social media are a common fraud. Bank staff will never ask for your OTP, CVV, PIN or full card number.

How to block a lost or stolen Federal Bank card

Call 1800 425 1199 / 1800 420 1199 (abroad +91 484 263 0994); email card details to creditcards@federalbank.co.in; FedNet > Credit Card > Manage Credit Card > Report Credit Card; FedMobile card management. (SMS blocking listed only for debit cards.) Scapia cards: block in Scapia app.

  2. Report unauthorised transactionsDispute each one with the bank within 3 working days for zero liability.

Fraud & your liability

  • RBI circular ’Customer Protection – Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions’, RBI/2017-18/15, DBR.No.Leg.BC.78/09.07.005/2017-18, dated 6 Jul 2017.
  • Zero liability: (a) bank’s contributory fraud/negligence/deficiency, regardless of reporting; (b) third-party breach where customer notifies within 3 working days.
  • Limited liability (third-party breach reported in 4–7 working days): lower of transaction value or cap — BSBD ₹5,000; savings/PPI/gift cards/small MSME ₹10,000; credit cards with limit up to ₹5 lakh and large business accounts ₹25,000.
  • Reported beyond 7 working days: liability per bank’s board-approved policy.
  • Shadow credit of disputed amount within 10 working days of notification; complaint resolved within 90 days; burden of proving customer liability lies on the bank.

What if Federal Bank does not resolve my complaint?

Am I liable for fraudulent transactions?

Not if you report within 3 working days of being alerted (zero liability). Reporting within 4–7 working days caps liability at ₹25,000 for cards with limits up to ₹5 lakh. The bank must provisionally credit the amount within 10 working days.
